In Arawak language, Nevis was originally called Dulcina (“Sweet Island”) and in the Carib language it is called Oualie (“Land of Beautiful Waters.”), now a well known and popular beach.
The 3,232 ft tall mountain you can see from here was first seen by Christopher Columbus during his second voyage in 1493. We call it "Our Lady of the Snow" as it is called Nuestra Senora de Las Nieves.
This location has access to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, as well as its geographical benefits; sandy beaches, thermal springs and fertile ground. This made it an attractive location for European and colonial settlers.
Alexander Hamilton's was born on January 11, 1755.. He was one of the Founding Fathers of America and also the Secretary of Treasury. 28 years after Nevis’s first inhabitants, Admiral Lord Nelson who fought against Napoleon with his fleet based there and is where he met his wife.
Nevis (along with St. Kitts) became independent of the British colonial holdings, and in 1983, the two islands became part of a democratic state called Saint Christopher and Nevis - a name inspired by a Saint and a Scottish nobleman!

The crew are very helpful and friendly and will transfer your bags and cases on and off the boat, plus they will also provide you with refreshments of your choice which will include the local Carib Beer.
